Salty

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt should lose its flavor, how shall it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.”
~ Yeshua the Messiah, Matthew 5:13

“Salt was of high value to the HebrewsGreeks, the ChineseHittites and other peoples of antiquity.
The word “salary” comes from the Latin word for salt
because the Roman Legions were sometimes paid in salt.
They said the soldiers who did their job well were “worth their salt.””

Yeshua (Jesus) calls us the “salt of the earth”.  What exactly did He mean to convey to His followers?
In His time salt was somewhat rare; there were principally two ways to collect salt:
either saltwater was left out to evaporate as a result of exposure to the sun’s rays, or salt was mined with great effort.
Salt was a preservative, a disinfectant, used as a spice to enhance the flavor of food, and even as currency.
As I reflected this morning on this verse during our family Scripture reading time,
I saw in my spirit the rays of the “Son” evaporating the diluting contents of vessels (us) leaving behind
pure salt- the Holy Spirit. As we continually pursue Him we are renewed by the Holy Spirit.
Salt is not meant to stay in the “salt shaker” though, we are not just the recipients, no- we are also meant to be the distributors.
We are challenged to keep from becoming diluted (losing our flavor): Romans 12:2 reads:
“Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind,
so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (TLV)
Beloved, remember who you are today-stay “salty”!
