Moving With the Cloud

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.”

Exodus 13:21-22

“A foundational principle for my walk with the Lord has always been that of moving with the cloud. This principle involves being one who is not led by their soul (intellect and emotions,) but rather, led of the Spirit. Moving with the cloud is an illustration that comes from the Old Testament account of the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land. During their 40 years in the desert, the glorious presence of the Lord would manifest itself as a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. When it moved, the Israelites moved. When God spoke from the cloud, Moses and the people were to obey. In whatever direction the cloud—His Presence—is moving, that’s where I want to go too.” -Dutch Sheets

As we stand on the precipice of momentous changes this word from Dutch Sheets arrived prophetically.
“Move with the cloud.”
My family and I are intent on “moving the cloud”- wherever that leads us. That particular concept of being led by the Spirit rather than by intellect or emotions is something that is a major stumbling block for many, in some cases those who are relationally close to us, those whom we love. The children of Israel did not go to Moses asking him what his “plan” was. Obedience and trust were the requirements for Moses and His Chosen People to be blessed by God.

“And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.” -Matthew 19:29

So we follow the cloud, we choose to follow our Master-to be led by His Spirit.
We know He is leading us, guiding us.
Whatever your situation, whatever big decisions may be looming on your horizon, choose this day to follow the Lord-“the cloud”. There is no better place to be than in the center of His will.
